Software license
The Kastel engine (context construction and governance, MCP server, connectors, CLI) is proprietary software. It is provided under a proprietary use license that allows self-hosting; its source code is not public.
The Kastel interface (the context protocol and schema exposed over MCP, the export format, the SDK) is open and standard, published under the Apache License 2.0: its specification is open, and any runtime or integrator can build against it.
Whatever deployment mode is chosen (self-host or managed hosting), the client retains full ownership of its data, its context and its infrastructure.
